This Christmas, if your looking for a place away from the swarms of visitors from around the country and world traveling to tourist heavy towns, but want a genuine Colorado experience with snow capped mountains, gorgeous valley vistas, and high altitude flora and fauna, try the 285 corridor of South Park.

Just outside the front range and 90 minutes from Denver, this expansive high mountain valley is the perfect place. While I live, recreate, and work mostly on the front range of Colorado, I own a second home here near Jefferson, Colorado. It seems remote, but that's the draw. Close enough to visit the ski towns and winter sports areas, but far enough away to find peace and solitude. Folks traveling through Fairplay and South Park into the mountains, miss the I-70 traffic, while experiencing small towns like Jefferson, Fairplay, and Alma, as they travel back in time reminiscent of days long ago in the Rocky Mountain west.

My husband and I recently stopped for lunch at the new location of Casa Sanchez on Main Street in Fairplay. We found authentic Mexican food, great service, and visitors and locals enjoying the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere of this family owned business. Also, in this peaceful valley is the Continental Divide Winery tasting room. A quaint small town version of a wine tasting room from the highest altitude winery in Colorado. This tasting room is popular for locals visiting from the surrounding community, and those traveling through Fairplay with sun kissed faces after a long day of skiing at the Breckenridge Ski Area. If you're in need of supper, there's the Shaggy Sheep Cookhouse in Grant, just over Kenosha Pass.

It's getting close to Thanksgiving and Christmas, and soon the purchase of a $25 Christmas Tree permit for the National Forrest will herald an adventurous day seeking the perfect tree for your home or cabin. Hot chocolate in a thermos, Christmas Carols, and snow grace this time with holiday cheer. If you're looking for a home for the holidays here, give me a call, I'm a Resort and Second Home Property Specialist. Check out my listing in Indian Mountain where you can be Home for Christmas in your ready to live, fully furnished Canadian Log Chalet. See it here.
